We’re thrilled to announce exciting news for Rotarians and sustainability leaders:

David Miller will keynote followed by Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick in a not-to-be missed presentation at the Building a Better World: Planning Impactful Projects — a dynamic, hybrid workshop hosted by RAGCED and ESRAG on Friday, June 20, 2025, the day before RICON in Calgary.

This full-day event, running from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm MDT (1400 – 2230 UTC), promises a rare opportunity to build your skills, strengthen your projects, and connect with leaders who are shaping Rotary’s future impact.

David Miller, former Mayor of Toronto and Managing Director of the C40 Centre for City Climate Policy and Economy will keynote. A globally recognized leader in sustainable city innovation, Miller will bring real-world insights on how Rotary can be a powerful driver of climate solutions. Participants will leave with practical strategies to create projects that are not only impactful but also scalable and enduring.

Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, a dynamic leader with global impact, has led projects in India, Nigeria, Vietnam, and Eastern Europe. With a doctorate in Leadership Studies, she brings powerful insights on leadership, service, climate action, and how Rotarians can create more impactful, lasting change.

The day will also feature expert-led panels offering tools and strategies to help Rotary members build stronger projects. Leaders like Meredith Burlew of Rotary International will share guidance on maximizing the environmental impact of Global Grants, while Ingrid Steinhoff, Past District Governor from Spain, will provide a roadmap for clubs and districts striving for carbon neutrality. Specialists in community economic development will explore how to make projects financially sustainable for long-term success.

Adding a delicious and educational twist, attendees will enjoy a low-carbon, locally sourced lunch prepared by SAIT’s culinary students. During this “Lunch and Learn,” renowned plant-based nutrition leader Brenda Davis, RD, will explore how our dietary choices can heal both ourselves and the planet.

In the afternoon, participants will dive into interactive workshops to develop or refine projects across key areas like renewable energy, circular economy innovations, nature-based solutions, plant-rich food systems, project financing, and leveraging Rotary scholarships for environmental action. You’ll not only leave with a concrete project plan and tools to measure your progress but also with access to a support network through ESRAG’s iRotree platform.

For those who can’t attend in person, the workshop will also be offered virtually — complete with live Zoom access and captioned translations in 35 languages — for just $10. In-person registration is $85 and includes the full program, lunch, and global networking opportunities.
