As the world grapples with climate change, environmental degradation, and resource depletion, the importance of sustainable living has never been more urgent. Recognizing this, Rotary District 3131’s Environment Committee launched Mission LiFE, an innovative initiative that educates students on practical ways to reduce waste, conserve water and electricity, and adopt eco-friendly habits. ESRAG SA member Rajendrakumar V Saraf from the District Environment Committee guided this initiative.

Through interactive workshops, students learn the importance of replacing plastic tiffin boxes and water bottles with steel, composting kitchen waste at home, and making bio-enzymes as natural cleaners. They are also encouraged to save water by fixing leaks and using aerators, reduce electricity consumption by switching off unused appliances and maximizing natural light, and grow plants using organic compost. This hands-on approach not only educates students but also empowers them to become active contributors to a more sustainable future.
Rotarian Ganesh Bora, a key trainer in these workshops, is a shining example of sustainable living. He practices waste segregation and composting at home, using kitchen waste to create organic compost that nourishes his home garden. He avoids plastic bags and single-use utensils, preferring sustainable alternatives. His home reflects a zero-waste approach, serving as a model for sustainable living. A quote by Robert Swan, a renowned environmentalist, resonates deeply with the efforts of Rotary District 3131: “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

This initiative is a testament to the power of individual action and community-led change. By empowering individuals to take ownership of their environmental impact, Rotary District 3131 is creating a ripple effect of positive change that will benefit generations to come.
The Rotary Club of Walhekarwadi has also provided steel water bottles and lunchboxes in village schools, ensuring that sustainability becomes a part of daily life for students. As more schools and communities embrace these practices, the goal of a more sustainable future comes closer to reality. Through their collective efforts, Rotary District 3131 is fostering a greener mindset, proving that small yet consistent actions can create a long-term environmental impact.
