Chair, Task Forces

Doug White is a retired green architect who was the principal of Doug White Architects for over thirty years.  His architectural practice specialized in biophilic tropical green building design on St. Thomas and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  

Doug’s design philosophy is that buildings should exist in balance and harmony with nature. They should generate their own power and process their own waste.  

With his wife Leslie, he was also the owner of Solar Supply, a renewable energy company in the VI for over twenty years. He is an active proponent and user of solar power since the mid 1990’s. 

Doug has been a Rotarian since 1987. He was a Co-founder, Charter Member, Past President, and Board Member of the Rotary Club of St. John, VI and is currently Environmental Sustainability Chair of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East Eco and the Treasurer of the Rotary East Foundation Inc. (501c3). Doug proposed that his club rebrand as an Eco Club, which was the 9th Eco Club chartered by Rotary International. He was the District 7020 Environment Committee Chair and a member of The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisors for the Environment.  

In ESRAG, Doug is the Task Force Coordinator, Projects Division for ESRAGs seven Task Forces.  Previously, he was Co-chair, with Rob Anderson of the Climate Solutions Task Force which helped develop and support the Task Forces.  He is also an active member of the Plant Rich Diet Task Force and the Renewable Energy Task Force.

Doug and his wife Leslie, also a Rotarian, both drive EVs (electric vehicles), that run on sunshine and live in a solar powered home, with battery backup, which exports excess solar power back to the grid. They have an organic vegetable garden and home composting.  He has been a vegetarian/vegan for 25 years.
