About Our Chapter
Welcome to the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG)!
ESRAG was formed to empower Rotarian and non-Rotarian members to take actions to sustain our environment, particularly to stabilize our climate. How can ESRAG help you?
ESRAG provides an organizing point and informational resources to share information with clubs and communities about sustainable practices and the global humanitarian crisis of climate change.
Our action model:
Identify environmental leaders within the Rotary world, assist them in initiating environmental service projects that are meaningful to THEM, help where we can, and acknowledge and publicize their awesome work.
We look forward to collaborating with you to bring Rotary’s ‘Service Above Self’ ethic to solving environmental problems.
UN Environment: Rotarians Vital to Climate Solutions
With pollution and climate change wreaking economic havoc, causing more than 7 million premature deaths a year, and fueling the refugee crisis, “we are doing a poor job for our planet and our peoples’ health as we pursue economic development,” warned Dr. Hartwig Kremer, Head of UN Environment’s Global Environment Monitoring Unit, in a speech to ESRAG members in Hamburg. But because we are “in touch with local communities, professionals, and business leaders worldwide,” he added, Rotarians can catalyze solutions.
The UN provides the framework and tracks global progress: “In September 2015, with the backing of 193 world leaders, 17 Sustainable Development Goals were agreed to eradicate extreme poverty and achieve a healthy, sustainable world by the year 2030.

We will sorely miss Mike Cloutier
We will sorely miss Mike Cloutier, whose skill, empathy, and love of all things Rotary made him an incomparable friend and mentor in building the IT system we need to coordinate and communicate ESRAG’s global work. We send love and sorrow to our dear colleague, Mike’s wife Lori Cloutier, our fearless pioneer of the Plastics Solutions Task Force.
Rescue PCs and their vital materials
A Seattle Rotarian shares how reconditioning PCs can empower people and non-profits, plus protect the environment. Here’s what your club can do to recover, recondition, donate, mine, and recycle tech to prevent toxic e-waste from piling up in your landfill.
Seven Directors Elected/Appointed
The Rotarians chosen as ESRAG Directors in 2023 represent six nations. They bring a wide array of skills, and senior leadership experience in Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
